Ants can be difficult for residential and commercial properties to control in NYC & NJ. Having a professional pest control company that specializes in ant removal & control in New York and New Jersey is essential to a long term ant control solution that provides peace of mind.
With over 700 species of ants in the united states it is important to properly identify which ant species you are dealing with. Ant identification isn’t as difficult, despite the variance in size, due to the ant’s three distinct body regions: head, thorax and abdomen, as well as antennae. Implementing a successful integrated pest management plan requires proper pest Id.
Ants smell with their long, thin antennae. Ants communicate with each other using pheromones, sounds, and touch.
There are three kinds of ants in a colony: The queen, the female workers, and males. The queen’s job is to lay eggs. Swarmer ants are winged males and females that fly out to start new colonies and spread to different areas. Swarmer ants mate during the swarm, and the male dies shortly after mating. The queen then locates a good nesting site so that she can shed her wings and begin to set up a colony.
ANT LIFE CYCLE
Ants develop by complete metamorphosis with the larva stages passing through a pupal stage before emerging as an adult. Ant colonies can be long-lived. The queens can live for up to 30 years, and workers live from 1 to 3 years. Males, however, are more transitory, being quite short-lived and surviving for only a few weeks.
Whether you’re in office buildings, healthcare facility or a residential property keeping ants out is a continuous effort, not a one-time treatment process. It is important to identify the species of ants before attempting ant extermination. Just spraying an insecticide spray, particularly a repellent one, will only kill a few ants and scatter the ones which survive. A proper integrated pest management plan will detail long term pest control solutions such as pest proofing to help eradicate any ant infestation.
