The house fly has been known to carry over 100 different kinds of disease-causing germs and feed on everything from animal feces to human food. House flies can lay up to 500 eggs in their life time which is only about 15-25 days. Fly infestations can grow extremely quick through new generations. House flies do not have teeth and can only eat liquids. Flies can turn solid food into a liquid by spitting or vomiting on it and then absorbing it like a sponge through their straw like tongues.

FRUIT FLY

Fruit flies are common in homes, restaurants, supermarkets and wherever else ripe, rotten or decaying fruits and vegetables can be found. Fruit flies can also be found breeding in other areas such as drains, garbage disposals and trash cans. The female fruit fly can lay about 500 eggs which hatch in as little as 24-30 hours making fruit fly control very difficult. Fruit flies will lay their eggs near the surface of fermenting foods or other moist, organic materials so that emerging larvae can continue to feed.

DRAIN FLY

Drain flies also known as sewer or moth flies are considered part of the gnat family and pose a temporary nuisance. However, a drain fly infestation can become bothersome when the population becomes large. Drain flies breed in “standing” water which is why it is not uncommon for residential and commercial establishments to find them in areas like the bathroom. Drain flies lay about 30 to100 eggs, which are laid in standing water. Eggs hatch in as little as three days. Drain Flies usually live about two to three weeks. Because drain flies do not bite there is no concern for transmission of disease but can spread bacteria from their filthy areas they live in.
